We review every submission and may edit for length, clarity and style. Please include your name and town for publication; your email and phone are used only to verify the submission and are not published.

What You Can Submit

We welcome three kinds of submission from readers, and you can choose the type on the form above:

• Letters to the editor — your opinion on a local issue, a response to our coverage, or a matter you think the community should be discussing.
• Events — public, community-oriented happenings in the Tri-Lakes, from town meetings and school events to festivals, fundraisers, and club gatherings.
• Announcements — community news such as milestones, recognitions, new local businesses, and notices of public interest.

Letters to the Editor

Letters run in Opinion and reflect the views of their authors, not The Monument Independent. Please include your name and the town or neighborhood you want published, and keep letters reasonably brief — we suggest around 400 words or fewer. We verify that you wrote the letter, and we may edit for length, clarity, accuracy, and civility. We do not publish letters that are libelous or that make claims of fact we cannot substantiate. Events and Announcements

For events, tell us the what, when, where, and cost, along with a link or contact for more information. So we can help spread the word in time, please send event listings at least a week or two ahead. Community and nonprofit events are our priority, and you can also browse what is coming up on our Community Calendar. We read every submission, but we cannot guarantee that each one will be published.

How We Handle Your Submission

We read everything that reaches the newsroom. We may edit submissions for length, clarity, style, accuracy, and civility, and publication is at our discretion. We do not publish anonymous submissions: we need to be able to verify who you are, even when only your name and town appear in print.

Your Privacy

We publish the name and town you provide. Your email address and phone number are used only to verify your submission and to reach you with questions; we do not publish them and we do not sell or share your contact information. See our Privacy Policy for more.
