Spring belonged to the throwers and the track. The Classical Academy‘s girls won a third straight 3A state title, Palmer Ridge‘s boys took three golds at the 4A meet, and Lewis-Palmer claimed two of the top three places in the 4A discus. The diamond and the soccer pitch were quieter, though Palmer Ridge’s girls earned the No. 1 seed in 4A before a short stay in the playoffs.
Four schools anchor this roundup. Lewis-Palmer (Rangers) and Palmer Ridge (Bears) are 4A schools in Monument; Monument Academy (Lynx) is a smaller 2A charter that fields only track in the spring; and The Classical Academy (Titans) competes at 3A in northern Colorado Springs. Colorado runs lacrosse as a single class, listed as 5A.
Men’s spring sports
Baseball
The Classical Academy went furthest. Ranked among 3A’s best, the Titans won their regional and reached the eight-team state tournament in Greeley, where University ended their season 6-0; the Bulldogs’ ace struck out 13 and allowed three hits. Senior Zach Mediavilla hit .537 with a team-high 38 runs and 26 stolen bases.
Palmer Ridge drew the No. 20 seed in the 4A bracket and lost its regional opener 6-1 to Pueblo South. Lewis-Palmer finished 8-15 and missed the playoffs, though senior right-hander Jake Provencio led the Pikes Peak League with 67 strikeouts.
Boys lacrosse
Lewis-Palmer carried the local flag alone. The Rangers went 7-9, took second in their league at 6-1, and reached the 5A playoffs before falling to Legend 9-8 in the first round on May 7.
Boys track and field
Palmer Ridge finished third in the 4A team standings — behind Niwot and Roosevelt — but left Jeffco Stadium (May 14-16) with a clutch of golds. Nathan Moller won the high jump at 6 feet, 10 inches and took third in the 110-meter hurdles; Owen Twesme repeated as shot put champion at 60-11, a meet record; and the Bears took the 4×100-meter relay in 41.72 seconds. Samuel Inama added a second in the discus at 168-7.
The Classical Academy finished 3A runner-up with 67 points, behind Coal Ridge’s 86, ending a three-year title run. Junior Jackson Edwards won the 3A shot put at 51-3.25 and made all-state in both throws — one of five Titans on the first team, alongside Barrett Paas, Caden Maddox, Matteus Weber and Wilson Grothe.
Women’s spring sports
Girls soccer
Palmer Ridge had the area’s finest regular season, going 15-2-1 to claim the overall No. 1 seed in 4A. The reward was brief: the Bears edged Mead on penalties after a scoreless draw, then lost 3-0 to Windsor in the quarterfinals on May 12.
The Classical Academy went 10-5-1, swept its league at 5-0 and won two state-tournament games — 5-1 over St. Mary’s Academy and 8-0 over Pueblo Centennial — before Colorado Academy ended the run 5-1 in the quarterfinals. Junior Madelyn Mork scored 24 goals and sophomore Reagan Harter led the state with 17 assists. Lewis-Palmer finished 4-10-1 and missed the postseason.
Girls lacrosse
Palmer Ridge and Lewis-Palmer both field girls lacrosse in the 5A South League. The Bears’ Jessie Banker, a junior midfielder, made first-team all-league, with teammates Annie Ragsdale and Lyzel Schlosser earning honorable mention; the Rangers’ Asiah Martinez and Claire Shin were also honorable-mention picks.
Girls track and field
This was the spring’s headline. The Classical Academy won the 3A girls team title — its third in a row and 14th overall — with 119 points, the only 3A girls program to clear 100. Vivian Jack took the 800 meters (2:15.22) and Reese Blackwood the 100 (12.17); the Titans added the 4×200 and 4×800 relays. Tim Daggett was named 3A coach of the year. The program moves up to 4A next season.
Lewis-Palmer ruled the 4A throws. Reese Douglas won the shot put state title at 40-10 and placed third in the discus, where teammate Kacey Johnson took second — two Rangers among the top three. For Monument Academy, junior Evie Scaling reached the 2A meet in the 100, the 200 and the long jump, the Lynx’s lone qualifier.
